We have been making alternative versions of the Hampstead Wreath for Christmas presents… on no.46′s lovely lipstick red door we have made a muted and tasteful version in brown, taupe, stone and green.. very au naturelle.
Then there is a true Aran version, tasteful and classy.. and it shows the cable pattern off really well. The pompoms are in donkey, stone, taupe and duck egg.
The brown/ natural one looks great on this door too!
We also have good news re: the wreath. Thanks to all you generous knitters out there, we are able to send off $1000 to Citymeals! $1000! Isn’t that fantastic? So, from a quick look at the Citymeals website, we (you) have managed to provide one homebound elderly person with meals on weekends for an entire year, forty (40!) Holiday meals and an emergency package containing 77 non-perishable items (I have cobbled together that list from the donations page here). There’s still a bit of change for soomething else, too.
If you’re reading this and not yet bought the Hampstead Wreath pattern then please consider it. I know we’re British and it’s a NYC based charity and that there are plenty of good charities needing support here, but believe me, life in NY can be hard – especially in winter, with weeks of sub-zero temperatures – if you’re housebound. And even more so if you live in any of the areas that Sandy affected badly. A relative of a friend was without power for 9 days. She was lucky as she had relatives to help out, there are many older people who don’t. So please. If you can, please do.
As soon as we can send off more money we will tell you!
Thank you again, everyone who has bought the Hampstead Wreath. Belinda and Wendy x
